Best Time to Visit Marrakech
Marrakech is a city that overwhelms the senses in the most intoxicating way — the labyrinthine souks of the Medina overflow with spices, leather, and lanterns, the call to prayer echoes across terracotta rooftops, and the legendary Jemaa el-Fnaa square transforms from a daytime market into a nightly carnival of food stalls, musicians, and storytellers. Beyond the ancient walls, the snow-capped Atlas Mountains form a dramatic backdrop just an hour away. But timing your visit is crucial — summers bring punishing heat that can top 45°C, while spring and autumn offer the perfect blend of warm days, cool evenings, and manageable crowds.

Scores based on your preferences. Higher is better.
March
One of the best months to visit. Warm, sunny days perfect for exploring the Medina and venturing into the Atlas Mountains. The countryside is green from winter rains. Crowds pick up but remain manageable. If Ramadan falls in March, expect some restaurants to close during daytime.
April
Arguably the single best month for Marrakech. Warm but not hot, with long sunny days ideal for the souks, palaces, and day trips. The gardens are lush and the rooftop terraces are perfect for evening dining. Book riads in advance as this is prime season.
November
Cooling down with occasional rain showers but still pleasant for sightseeing. Crowds thin and prices drop, making it a smart shoulder-season choice. The Marrakech Film Festival adds glamour in late November. Evenings get chilly — pack a jacket for rooftop dinners.
October
One of the best months alongside March and April. Warm, sunny days with comfortable evenings perfect for rooftop dining. The Medina is busy but not overwhelming. Ideal for combining Marrakech with Atlas Mountains trekking or a Sahara desert trip. Book ahead — savvy travelers know this is prime time.
February
Warming up nicely with comfortable daytime temperatures for sightseeing. Still chilly at night. The almond blossoms in the Atlas foothills are a beautiful day-trip option. One of the best value months with low crowds and excellent riad availability.
May
Warm and getting hotter — daytime highs reach 30°C but evenings are pleasant. Two of Morocco's best festivals happen nearby this month. The last comfortable month before summer heat sets in. A good balance of weather and value, though afternoons can feel hot in the Medina.
August
The hottest month — relentless, scorching heat makes outdoor activities nearly impossible during the day. This is Marrakech at its quietest and cheapest. Luxury riads with pools offer the best experience. The city comes alive after sunset when temperatures finally ease.
July
Extreme heat — temperatures regularly exceed 38°C and can hit 45°C. The city empties of tourists and many locals retreat indoors during the day. Only for heat-tolerant travelers who want rock-bottom prices and an empty Medina. Confine sightseeing to early morning and after sunset.
June
Hot. Temperatures regularly hit the mid-30s and the Medina's narrow alleys trap the heat. Mornings and evenings are bearable, but midday sightseeing is punishing. Crowds thin as heat deters visitors. If you can handle the temperature, you'll find great deals and a more authentic, less touristy atmosphere.
September
Still very warm but the worst of summer is passing. The second half of September sees a noticeable drop in temperatures and the first trickle of autumn visitors. A transitional month — early September feels like summer, late September feels manageable. Good value with increasing comfort.
January
Cool and pleasant during the day but genuinely cold at night — temperatures can drop to 5°C and most traditional riads have limited heating. The Medina is uncrowded and prices are low. Pack warm layers for evenings and enjoy hassle-free exploration of the souks.
December
Cool and crisp — ideal for wandering the Medina without overheating. The Atlas Mountains get snow, offering a surprising skiing day trip. Early December is quiet and affordable; prices jump around Christmas and New Year's. Cold nights (down to 7°C) mean choosing a riad with heating.

Safety & things to know
Marrakech is generally safe for tourists but requires street smarts and patience. Violent crime against visitors is rare, however the Medina's intensity — aggressive touts, persistent salespeople, and occasional scams — can be exhausting, especially for first-time visitors. Women may face unwanted attention.
